Symphonic Band Q & A
Who should register for Symphonic Band?
- Since band is a year-long course, students will register for Marching Band/Drumline in the fall and will be sorted into Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band by the director for the spring semester. Almost all incoming freshmen from NMS and SMS will be enrolled in Symphonic Band. There might be specific exceptions to this, such as if a student is enrolled in a special program like College Prep Academy, PCC Courses, etc. These decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis by the director in coordination with the student's counselor.
- Symphonic Band gives three concerts in the spring semester. At our Music in our Schools Month Concert in early March, at MPA in mid/late March, and at an additional spring concert in May.
- The learning process! Students will growth and advance in their musical knowledge through a series of units (4-5), building on one another, while applying those skills through the literature they'll perform. To close each unit students will have a written and performance test. Many students in this ensemble are either freshman or sophomores; the environment both rigorous and fun, helps students learn more about performing as a part of a large ensemble. Students who demonstrate a high level of growth and proficiency on their instrument will be selected to perform with the Wind Ensemble the following year.
