Jazz Ensemble:
How do I join Jazz Ensemble?
- Jazz Ensemble is now an afternoon club that will meet every Friday from 3:30-5 pm and is open to all grade levels (9-12).
- The ensemble follows an expanded big band instrumentation, which is as follows:
- Alto Saxophone
- Tenor Saxophone
- Baritone Saxophone
- Trombone
- Trumpet
- Guitar
- Bass
- Keyboard
- Drums
- You'll get to explore new genres and styles of music, and have much more freedom to make musical decisions. Jazz is an important part of American culture and champions freedom. Many of our students cite jazz ensemble as their favorite and most fun part of their day. DID YOU KNOW?: Some of the most famous Jazz musicians were born and raised in North Carolina. John Coltrane, Nina Simone, Max Roach, and Thelonius Monk are all from NC.

The Person High School Jazz Ensemble was re-established in the 2021-22 school year. Jazz ensemble—students perform in a big-band setting that will allow for the exploration of multiple forms of jazz music, performing a variety of concerts, festivals, and CDBA MPA. Wind Ensemble—students that are chosen by the director to perform a wider & challenging range of music. The students prepare and audition for the CDBA All-District Band and other honor bands across the state.
